Classic Gardens

Tucked away in the narrow lanes of the tranquil South Somerset countryside are 10 wonderful gardens. Here you can capture something of the essence of the Classic English Garden. Whether small or large, formal or informal, each garden is among the best of its type and each illustrates the deep-rooted passion which the English have for their gardens. Special Thanks go to Faraway Furniture who donated a lovely wooden bench and to Stone Benches UK who donated a stunning (but heavy!) stone bench and lastly thanks to this company who donated a small quality tree seat
Enjoy this diverse collection of classic gardens set in the beautiful English countryside.

Gardening has flourished for centuries in South Somerset, where countless wonderful garden and furniture nestle in the peaceful countryside.
Most famous of all is Montacute where formal gardens provide a grand setting for the architectural splendour of Montacute House, one of  England's finest Elizabethan houses. But Montacute is just one of the 'Classic Gardens of South Somerset', each is a masterpiece of its kind. View the riots of colour in the informal cottage gardens at East Lambrook Manor, created by the famous garden designer Margery Fish. The delightful Lower Severalls Gardens & Nursery are worth a visit as are  the small formal gardens at Tintinhull and Lytes Cary Manor. For superb landscaped estates visit Barrington Court, Forde Abbey, Cothay Manor, and Hestercombe.
Add to these the delightful private gardens, open throughout the summer (as part of the National Garden Scheme).

This beautiful corner of the West Country, offers so much to all those who delight in gardening and fine countryside.
